Disinfection of SARS-CoV-2 Contaminated Surfaces of Personal Items with UVC-LED Disinfection Boxes

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is transmitted from person to by close contact, small aerosol droplets, and potentially via contact with contaminated surfaces. Herein, we investigated the effectiveness of commercial UVC-LED disinfection boxes in inactivating SARS-CoV-2-contaminated surfaces personal items. We glass, metal, plastic samples representing items such as smartphones, coins, or credit cards SARS-CoV-2 formulated an organic matrix mimicking human secretions. For disinfection, were placed at different distances UVC emitting LEDs inside irradiated for time periods (up 10 min). High viral loads effectively inactivated on all after 3 min irradiation.
